Here we give the list of the basic terms which can be found in the roulette game. Read the definitions of the terms and try to keep them in mind cause it will aid you to understand the roulette game.

American Roulette - variation of roulette game widely spread in the United States. In this version of the game the wheel consists of 38 number slots, from 0 to 36 plus extra 00 that permits to place Five-number bet.

Ball - small ball usually of ivory or plastic. The ball is rolled in the wheel and its resting determines the losers and winners.

Biased roulette wheel - badly settled or faulty wheel that may cause the same numbers to fall out quite often.

Black action - bet placed with the help of black chip worth $100.

Black Bet - bet that in the next wheel spin the roulette ball will stop on the number colored black.

Carre’ - Square or Corner Bet in French.

Cheval - Split or Two-number Bet in French.

Column Bet - type of outside bet that covers one of columns on the numbered chart.

Corner Bet - type of inside bet that covers four adjoining numbers. Corner bet is also called Square Bet.

Croupier - casino employee who works at the roulette table. In most gambling rooms this person is known as dealer.

Double zero or 00 - an additional roulette pocket present in American Wheel.

Dozen Bet - type of outside bet which can be made on one of three certain groupings of numbers which are separated into three dozens.

En prison rule - or Surrender rule present in French or European roulette. The rule says that in case the gambler makes outside bet he/she may lose the half of his bet or leave the bet for the next spin of the wheel.

European Roulette - variation of roulette in which the wheel comprises 37 numbered sections, from 0 to 36. In this typeof the game, in contrast to American roulette, the casino has lower edge, that is why the player has greater winning possibilities.

Five-number Bet - inside bet that allows to make bet on just five certain numbers 0, 00 1, 2 and 3.

House edge - the difference between actual odds and payouts that shows the advantage of the house. This is how the casinos get money.

High Bet - type of outside bet that allows the roulette player to bet that the next number comes up between 19 and 36.

Inside Bet - bet that is made out of the numbered grid and allows to make bet on a grouping of numbers.

Low Bet - outside bet that permits the roulette player to bet lucky number appears between 1 and 18.

Martingale Betting System - betting system the basic idea of which states to double the bet each time the player loses since in the next spin he or she may return the lost bet and win one more unit.

Outside Bet - bet that is made inside the number grid and permits to bet on one certain number or a few numbers.

Payout - money the gambler is paid by casino.

Red Bet - betting that in the next spin the ball rests on the number marked in red.

Reds - casino chips worth $5.

Reverse LaBouchere Betting System - roulette betting system based on procedure of writing down all the numbers and betting on the first and last numbers and then adding the numbers back to the end of the series.

Reverse Martingale Betting System - roulette betting system the general idea of which says that the gambler should double the bet in case he or she beat the wheel.

Roulette chips - special casino chips used only in the roulette. These chips are marked in different colors to identify the bets of every gambler. The gambler can buy roulette chips and cash them at the end of the game from the roulette dealer.

Roulette layout - roulette table which consists of numbered chart and wheel.

Roulette system - one of the existing methods that permits the roulette players to increase their winning odds and beat the bank.

Six-number Bet - type of inside bet that gives the chance to bet two adjacent rows of numbers.

Sixainne - French word for Six-number Bet.

Split Bet or Two-number Bet - inside bet that gives the opportunity to bet two neighboring numbers.

Straight Bet - inside bet that gives the chance to bet just on one definite number.

Street Bet or Three-number Bet- inside bet which gives the chance to bet the row of the numbers on the roulette table.

Transversale - French term for Street Bet.

Wheel roller - croupier or roulette dealer.
